The Castle of Magny, is situated on the Normandy coast between Bayeux and Arromanches. Itwas built at the beginning of the eighteenth century. The building, with its 51 meters long facades based on the Golden Number, is a beautiful example of classical architecture.
The castle is directed to the central tower of Bayeux cathedral and has a 4,5 kilometers long sightline to the Dome. From the center of the south facade one could see the Dome.
During two centuries the castle of Magny was inhabited by noble families, but during the Second World War the building was confiscated by the German army and after the war it was sold and changed into a linen factory by its new owner.
The factory closed in 1974, the castle was abandoned.
In 1989 the Dutch artists Krijn and Martina Giezen acquired the château-factory.
In 2016 a terrible fire destroyed the western part of the roof.
A project for preservation and roof reconstruction is in preparation, in collaboration with D.R.A.C (Normandy Cultural Affairs) and the Bern Commission (Loto du Patrimoine).
For the realisation of this project a workteam has been formed consisting of the architect Jean-Yves Barrier, Hervé-Armand Béchy, art theoritician, and Martina Giezen-Wagenaar, owner of the château.
